Bulldozers have replaced the pick, loaders are used instead of spades and trucks instead of mules. Nowadays there is no need for men to use spades in order to fill small sacks and then carry them to loading boats and from there on to the cargo ships. Conveyor belts are used instead, which can transport 700 tons per hour, and load boats of 25-30.000 tons capacity.<br \/>\nDust emissions from chimneys and filters are minimal \u2013 10 times under the limits stipulated by legislation \u2013 while the wetting of the roads ensures low dust levels in the work place.<br \/>\nPrevention of dangerous illnesses and of hazardous situations requires constant care.<br \/>\nMeasurements of noise levels and technical means of noise suppression, protection measures (helmet, safety boots, work clothing, glasses, face masks, ear plugs, gloves), where required, and continuous medical monitoring of the workers aim at the protection of their health on the one hand and at the safe and unhindered conduction of their work on the other.
